Control/Monitoring
LEIBINGER Full Monitoring System

The LEIBINGER Full Monitoring System combines the advantages of a purely mechanically operated numbering machine and 100% electronic control.
Numbering machines: Basis of the numbering machines in such a numbering system is a two-unit construction. The upper unit, containing the mechanical moving parts, can be seperated easily from the unit containing the electronic parts by loosening only two screws.
This concept has a lot of advantages in terms of handling and maintenance:
- The mechanical unit with the moving parts can be handled, cleaned and maintained in the same way as conventional mechanical numbering machines.
- The second unit, containing the sensor electronics, stays on the press as no cleaning and regular maintenance is required.
- After re-connecting the upper mechanical unit no new positioning is required, all machines are in the proper location (no move of lower adaptor unit).
- The numbering machines are equipped with a pre-inking system.
- The non-automatic wheels are locked by means of a spring loaded pin; to turn the wheels one has to push the pin, after releasing it again the wheels are automatically locked.
Electronic Control: The LEIBINGER Full Monitoring System is based on a "four-sensor-system"-design. Each automatic wheel is equipped with a sensor circuit using four sensors. With this system the position of each wheel is controlled 100%, knowing exactly which figure is active.
This means the press will only start with every figure adjusted correctly; differences will be shown exactly with the detailed position on the system monitor.
Correction can be done immediately and the press can be started.
The four-sensor-system features a "designed-in redundancy" that provides the user with a very high level of security.
PC-LM 2000 NC - electronic modulus control with monitoring
Functions: The LM 2000 NC controls the check digit wheel by a central processor and adjusts it via a step motor on the numbering machine. It identifies data for the input of identification cards, credit cards, consignment notes, insurance polices, etc.
Controlling possibilities: The processor calculates the modulus figure necessary for a certain serial number within a millisecond. Then the modulus wheel is adjusted via a step motor to the figure which has to be printed. The LM 2000 NC can be used on nearly all known WEB presses, collators and sheet fed presses. The figure wheels which are switching mechanically are switched via actuating pawls, swing, operating arm and cam as usual. The essential difference is the modulus wheel which is controlled by a step motor.
Error control:
- Individual figure error - one wrong figure in the number
- Exchange error - two figures are exhanged
- Double exchange error - two figure groups are exchanged
- Compensating errors - the wrong figure is used at the wrong position
PC-LEN - Electronic Random Numbering
With the LEIBINGER PC LEN it is possible to control a maximum of 8 figure wheels electronically. The control is done via stepping motors.
This full electronic numbering system combines the following advantages:
- The numbering machines are two-unit-construction. The mechanical unit with figure wheels can be seperated from the electronic unit. It can be cleaned and maintained like a conventional mechanical numbering machine.
- No manual setting of starting numbers is required; a manual re-setting after a press stop is not necessary.
- All sequences and check digit systems are possible.
This system is mainly used:
- On single-note banknote-presses
- Numbering of securits documents like passports etc.
LNST 4 - the electronic numbering control system for the numbering units on WEB presses
Functions: The LEIBINGER LNST 4 control system guarantees a sequential throw on/throw off of the numbering at speeds from 10 up to 600 rev./min. Depending on the circumference this corresponds to a speed of approx. 15 to 900 ft/min.
Controlling possibilities: Of course, the LNST 4 is also able to sequentially throw on/off several numbering cylinders and/or printing units which are arranged serially (sequential print control).
Possibilities of extension::
- Throw on/off of the impression cylinder parallel to the sequence of the numbering cylinders
- Monitoring of the joint of paper web
- Stop of the numbering on the end of paper web
- Repeating numbers
- Web break
- Special requests on demand
Advantages:
- After a stop the numbering machines do not have to be readjusted by hand.
- No more wasted paper caused by wrong numbering.
- Considerable saving of time caused by reduced set-up times.
