Ursula-Susanne Böckhaus (USB) talked with Volker Teufel (VT), Produktmanager of Leibinger GmbH & Co. KG.
USB: Time economy as a tool for reducing production cost is an important theme in manufacturing. How do you as a manufacturer of auxiliary equipment handle this topic?
VT: End-user easy application is our highest priority. This not only applies to our customer support service but is also reflected in our products. In the development of our products we attach great importance to ease of use, capacity and reliability because high product quality is essential for long-term, high volume usage. As production processes are arranged more efficiently, it is important that the equipment inside the production line is easy and fast to handle and functions reliably. By using the Windows Embedded sofware, the menu navigation of our inkjet printers is similar to that of a personal computer. This gives the operator intuitive handling of the printer controls.
Besides the software, our products are built with state of the art technology and clearly arranged. This yields easy and fast servicing and low maintenance downtime, In addition the established automatic LEIBINGER nozzle seal delivers a smooth process in product marking. Starting the printer requires the pressing of only one button and the nozzle seal opens automatically. The printer is ready to print within one minute, with no flushing and cleaning procedures. Shutdown of the machine is also by pressing only one button. The gutter tube forms an airtight seal preventing drying-out of ink supply, nozzle, gutter tube and return line. These are the main things our customers value in our products.
USB: Last year you brought a new inkjet model to the market, which has many application possibilities.
VT: The newly developed inkjet printer JET3 fits in the high-end area of industrial inkjet printers and offers numerous functions and options. Most relevant is the large high-resolution colour touch screen, with big keys and icons for fast establishment and modification of printing data. All relevant production and printing data such as the production counter, speed, content of print, and status of inkjet can be identified at a glance. Functions like graphic and font editor help the user to input jobs. Besides up to 5 lines of simple text, logos and graphics can also be established and printed. For mobile data transfers the JET3 includes a USB port. Like a personal computer, the integrated explorer allows the free saving and loading of data onto different media such as USB-stick, SD-card, or into internal memory.
USB: Besides the inkjet printers your company also offers camera systems for data verification.
VT: For a few years now, product-marking requirements are getting stronger. Not only the content of the print has increased, but also the ease of readability is becoming more important. For subsequent machine processing for example with scanners or automatic identification systems a high readability of the print information is needed. In certain areas it is very important to compile a protocol with the results of the read data and error count in addition to the verification of printing data. With our advanced range of camera systems to verify product markings we are able to offer the perfect solution to verify printing information.
Our high-resolution matrix and linescan cameras are working with high quality cameras tracing multiple objects in independent windows. Printed figure, codes or other defined areas of interest are identified, decoded and verified on the fly against a reference database. As well as the inkjet printers our camera systems are subject to the high requirements of operation and reliability. The Windows-based interface and a teach-function guarantee easy handling and operation for differen kinds of applications. Customized solutions can be made quickly by adjusting the proprietary software.
USB: Please give us some applications where your production are used.
VT: The application area of our inkjet products is versatile. As a result of our extensive range of inks, including among others, pigmented, fast-drying and food grade inks our products can be used in almost all manufacturing sectors. This ranges from best before dates or lot numbers on packages, data matrix codes in the pharmaceutical and automotive industries as well as printing on cable with white-pigmented contrast inks. Materials such as glass, plastics or metal are also printable. Other typical applications for our camera systems are security labels, tickets, cards, mailing etc. Due to increased demand for product marking, our camera systems are increasingly used in other sectors like pharmaceutical, cable or packaging.
